Welcome to the Maine College Access Network, also known as MaineCAN! The goal of MaineCAN is to be action-oriented, collaborative, and really shake up the world of college access in Maine. For the past several years, a group of dedicated practitioners have been meeting to begin the process of creating a grassroots network that will coordinate efforts and provide access to and success in education beyond high school for the people of Maine.

MISSION

Our mission is to improve access to, and success in, education beyond high school for underrepresented youth and adults from economically disadvantaged homes, and those who are the first generation in their families to attend college. *

Our goal is to provide equitable access to, and success in, postsecondary education for all Maine citizens.

* We define college as those educational institutions beyond high school that offer apprenticeship, certificate, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, and advanced degree programs.

OBJECTIVES

  • Support educational programs, from kindergarten through college completion, that increase the success of Maine youth and adults.
  • Promote collaboration across education silos in Maine, and share best practices, resources, and core components of college success programs.
  • Advocate for success in education beyond high school for underrepresented youth and adults from economically disadvantaged homes, and those who are the first generation in their families to attend college.
  • Support the creation and illumination of diverse pathways to college completion for Maine youth and adults.
  • Create a statewide hub for college access and success resources.
  • Collect, analyze, and share demographic, educational, and career development data to inform and improve college access and completion.
